So what’s the exciting news? We’re moving!
It’s not to our forever home but the reason I am excited about it is because we’re using it as a catalyst to make some lifestyle changes. No, we’re not going on a weight loss journey, but we are making some significant changes to our eating and fitness habits and using the move as our starting point.
While we’ve never been unhealthy eaters, we’ve come to recognize that our busy schedules have gotten us in the habit of eating late and opting for less healthier options more often than we had realized. We’ve done research on all the popular diets (Whole 30, Paleo, Raw, etc.) and feel that all of them are missing key food items that we know are healthy (at least for us). So, instead of setting ourselves up for failure and picking a diet that we knew we wouldn’t stick to, we decided to Frankenstein one together (we’re still trying to think of a name).
So what did we opt for?
It most resembles Whole 30 because we know the importance of eating as much whole food and as little processed food as possible. What we don’t like/understand about Whole 30 is the prohibition from items like beans, quinoa, etc. For us, these items energize our body and leave us feeling satisfied vs. stuffed or lethargic. So, we decided to keep those on the grocery list.
In addition to a focus on whole foods, we are also incorporating raw into our diet. Initially this made me a little nervous because we are so busy running two companies and raw recipes often require a lot of creativity and planning. However, we found a handful of beginner recipes and prepped/to go options that we will try and report back on. I am hoping that we will like the raw diet because on ultra hot days in Florida, not turning the oven or grill on sounds perfect!
Finally, in an effort to consume the highest quality food and to support local businesses, we are committed to making a conscious effort to shop farmers markets as much as possible for our weekly groceries. While there will still be a need for a couple of grocery store trips throughout the week, I love the idea of meeting the people growing and harvesting our food and being able to directly support them for all their hard work. The Third Street S. Farmers Market is my absolute favorite to peruse so I am elated that they have reopened (Saturdays from 7:30-11:30 AM)!
What have you found most helpful in incorporating new eating habits?
Also, if you have a fave raw recipe, PLEASE share it! I am not a huge salad person so I need non-salad options to get me consistent with this. Oh, and don’t worry, we’ll be sharing our triumphs, laughs, epic recipe fails, and everything in between with you on Instagram so follow along!
Cheers!
