FRIDAY FIVE: Margarita Recipes
The Continental’s Diabolita
We love The Continental for their beautiful outdoor dining area, craft cocktails, and fantastic happy hour so when they agreed to share their Diabolita recipe, we were SO excited! In addition to the recipe, they educated us on flavor profiles and how to elevate a classic margarita into a craft cocktail that will make you look like a professional mixologist!
Ingredients (2-1-1 ratio)
1.5 oz. Habanero/Serrano infused tequila
0.5 oz. Licor 43
1 oz. Fresh lime juice
1 oz. Corazon
Margarita Tips
Swap the orange liqueur used in the classic margarita recipe for Elderflower (floral) or for a more Italian margarita, Liquore Strega!
Use fruit purees like blood orange, guava, or mango which pair well with agave.
For garnishes, cut your citrus into different shapes, use a swath of citrus to expel the oils, or dehydrate pieces of fruit such as pineapple, orange, or watermelon rind.

Felipe’s
What makes Felipe’s margaritas unique is their use of key limes instead of regular limes. While they are more difficult to squeeze, they are significantly more flavorful so definitely so Felipe’s said they are worth the extra fuss!
Ingredients
100% blue agave tequila
Orange liqueur
Agave syrup

Flavor Profiles, Courtesy of The Continental
Highlands is known for its red clay soil, high in minerals and sugar levels resulting in a style of tequila with a bit more sweetness and notes of fruit and cane. Margaritas made with tequila from producers in this area (e.g. Tequila Ocho, Casamigos, Chamucos, Chinaco) will be a bit more round in flavor profile from the hints of fruitiness.
Lowlands is known for its black volcanic soil, also high in minerals but yielding an earthy flavor with herbal overtones. Margaritas made with tequila producers in this area (e.g. Casa Dragones, Codigo, Casa Noble, Herradura, Maestro Dobel) will be a bit more austere in a way due to the higher mineral content of the volcanic soil and the herbal notes that shine through.
